Why verification matters on ardena
When you book a car from someone you have never met — or lend your vehicle to a stranger — the only thing standing between trust and risk is identity. ardena solved this by partnering with Dojah, Africa's leading KYC infrastructure provider, to verify every person on the platform before they can rent or list a vehicle.
The result: a closed community where everyone has passed the same identity check that Kenya's banks and fintechs rely on. Not a phone number. Not an email. A verified government ID, matched to a face.
What renters go through
Before a renter can complete a booking on ardena they go through Dojah's identity check:
- Government ID submission — national ID, passport, or driver's licence photographed through the app.
- Database authentication — Dojah checks the document against official government records and detects tampering.
- Facial match — a selfie is biometrically matched to the ID photo.
- Liveness detection — confirms a real person is present, not a photo or video.
Once verified, the renter receives a Verified status visible to hosts. Hosts can see who is requesting their vehicle before they approve a booking.
What this means when you rent
Every time you book through ardena you benefit from the fact that the host has also been through the same Dojah KYC process. You are not dealing with an anonymous listing. You know:
- The host's government ID has been authenticated
- Their face has been matched to that document
- ardena holds a verified record tied to any dispute or claim
- The vehicle listing is linked to a real, accountable person
This protects you legally and practically — and it is the same standard of identity assurance used by Kenya's licensed financial institutions.
Building Kenya's car hire trust ecosystem
Kenya's peer-to-peer car hire market has historically had no standard for identity verification. Ghost listings, unverifiable hosts, and anonymous renters created risk on both sides of every transaction.
The ardena × Dojah partnership changes that. By requiring KYC verification from everyone — renters and hosts alike — ardena creates a marketplace where accountability is built in, not bolted on. Every verified profile is a signal that this platform operates at the same trust level as the country's regulated financial services.
